The Neufeld SocietyNamed for Alonzo Neufeld '35, the Neufeld Society exists to support and promote academic inquisitiveness and excellence. Neufeld, an inspiring teacher and orthopaedic pioneer, spent hours experimenting in his garage-turned-lab, inventing different types of internal fixation and traction devices. His goal was to develop better orthopaedic treatment for patients. When Loma Linda University Medical Center orthopaedic residency graduates gathered at a reunion dinner in 1986, they decided to form a society to allow them to remain close to each other and to carry on what Neufeld started. The Neufeld Society exists to: 1. Interchange information among its members in order to aid in the practice and durther development of orthopedic surgery. 2. Pursue and accomplish orthopaedic research. 3. Establish a Neufeld Research Foundation 4. Support the Alonzo Neufeld Research Professorial Chair in orthopaedic surgery. 5. Encourage continuing contact among the graduates of the programs and to foster fellowship.
