Named for Alonzo Neufeld '35, the Neufeld Society exists to support and promote academic inquisitiveness and excellence. Neufeld, an inspiring teacher and orthopaedic pioneer, spent hours experimenting in his garage-turned-lab, inventing different types of internal fixation and traction devices. His goal was to develop better orthopaedic treatment for patients. When Loma Linda University Medical Center orthopaedic residency graduates gathered at a reunion dinner in 1986, they decided to form a society to allow them to remain close to each other and to carry on what Neufeld started. The Neufeld Society exists to: 1. Interchange information among its members in order to aid in the practice and durther development of orthopedic surgery. 2. Pursue and accomplish orthopaedic research. 3. Establish a Neufeld Research Foundation 4. Support the Alonzo Neufeld Research Professorial Chair in orthopaedic surgery. 5. Encourage continuing contact among the graduates of the programs and to foster fellowship.
