Building the Carrol S. Small Alumni Center

(Photo from Diamond Memories)  Demolition of the Chinnock duplex at 11241 and 11243 Anderson Street in preparation for the new Alumni Association building, circa 1981.  This small duplex at 11219 and 11221 Anderson Street, now owned by Loma Linda University, is similar in style to the duplex that was demolished to make room for the Alumni Center building. Park on July 29, 2009.)  The building pad—a tractor levels the ground after block foundation and the subterranean plumbing and electrical conduits were laid.  Framing begins—a first-story view from the southeast corner.  The Alumni Association building framed with second-story ceiling joists.  Studs for the second story facade are being attached to the ceiling joist.  The scratch coat—the stucco process begins.  A northwest view of the building after the color coat has been applied.  From the northwest corner of the building, the one-foot smooth textured decorative stripe is being hand painted.  Building shell complete—waiting for the parking lot to be paved, and for the sod and bushes to complete the landscaping.  The new Alumni Center building gets its sign.  Moving day—loading the truck for the half-block move south to 11245 Anderson Street. September 1982.  On Friday, March 6, 1998, the Alumni Center was renamed for Carrol S.
